Jim Mettenbrink –
Brookings, South Dakota: Jim, formerly with the Ridglea West
congregation in Fort Worth, Tx, began mission work in Russia, mainly in
Usinsk and later also in Pechorah, when he retired from the US Air Force.
Jim spent 9 months each year for 9 years in Russia until June of 2001
when the Russian Government refused to renew his visa.
It was reported in many Russian newspapers that they believed he was
a spy sent by the USA. He was
separated from his Russian wife Lena and youngest son Vova for 16 months as
they struggled to resolve both USA and Russian requirements for the family
to come to be with Jim. His
oldest son, Zhenya, was just barely able to get out of Russia before his 18th
birthday. He would have been
detained and put in the Russian army where 100’s of young boys die every
year due to severe hazing and abuse. Through
the efforts of many people and God’s grace they are all now united and
working for the Lord in Brookings, SD.
Royce Frederick and his family live in Fort Worth, Texas. Royce does his
mission work in India, but because the Indian Government does not allow missionaries from
the United States to take up permanent residence in India; Royce commutes. Royce makes two
trips each year to India, staying about eight weeks each time. Royce grew up in the
Itasca, Texas, area and his wife Susie grew up in Fort Worth, where she attended the White
Settlement congregation.
